ART-EXHIBITION in the GRAND HILTON HOTEL

FRANZ BRANDNER

Austrian born artist Franz Brandner is not only known within the borders of his own country, where his art works has found their places in private and public collections. Art speaks its own language with no borders attached. In the same way Brandner tries to live his life on the international stage. Married to a Malaysian with Chinese origin, he discovered the beauty and mystery of the Asian culture. As history has arrived at the age of globalization, our interest in other cultures and traditions are essential to build bridges between nations and different cultures.

“Franz Brandner (founder of the Vienna Art Gallery-Seoul), lives since a few years in Korea. He gained great recognition with his paintings in Korea as well as in Europe. His art is an important contribution for the cultural cooperation and exchange between Austria and Korea. It is my hope that the activities of the Vienna Art Gallery will contribute to deepen the cultural cooperation and help to support the comprehension of the different viewpoints in the fields of art and culture of the two countries.” H.E. Wilhelm Donko (Ambassador of the republic of Austria to Korea)

Franz Brandner was born in Austria, a small country in the heart of Europe, but with a great tradition in classical arts. Austria is the birth place of many great artists who contributed to shape art history significantly. We not only know the names of Mozart, Hayden, Bach, Strauss etc. who are masters of classical music. But not to forget the great painters like Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka who where co-founders of the Wiener Sezession, an important art movement in the 19th century.

Brandner’s aim is not only to carry on this great heritage, but to develop it. Brandner likes to paint Korean landscapes and flowers. One of Brandner’s favourite motive is near where he lives “Ach-Mountain”, a small hill in the north-east of Seoul where he walks up almost every morning. “The landscape is rough, untouched, the pine trees are not straight but bent, interrupted with rocks of all sizes and shapes. The structures of the nature appear strong and in great varieties. When the sun breaks through the mist in the morning, or even after a rainy day it’s a breathtaking experience watching this scene which appear different whenever one sees it”.

During this exhibition in the Grand Hilton Hotel you can not only see landscape and flower paintings from Korea as well as scenes from Europe, but you can personally meet with the artist and look over his shoulders when he creates new pieces of art.
