Movement is never merely physical. It carries tension, anticipation, balance and the possibility of transformation. In the sporting moment, the body becomes an instrument of force and precision, while the space around it is charged with expectation

In Brandner’s Sports paintings, the fleeting nature of action becomes a point of departure for painting itself. The artist is less concerned with recording a particular event than with translating its underlying energy into colour, gesture and composition. Figures emerge, collide, accelerate or suspend themselves within the pictorial space, often approaching abstraction as movement overtakes anatomical description.

The basketball scenes that initiate this evolving body of work are therefore not illustrations of sport. They are studies of presence and momentum—the instant in which physical action becomes visual rhythm. The court becomes a stage, the players become gestures, and the game becomes a metaphor for human interaction: competition, concentration, uncertainty and the constant negotiation between individual intention and external forces.

As the series develops, different sporting disciplines may enter this visual field. What connects them is not the particular sport, but the search for that charged moment in which movement, body and space converge.
